About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

October 2024 – Afghanistan continues to experience deteriorating humanitarian conditions, with high levels of need cutting across all provinces and sectors. In 2024, an estimated 23.7 million people require humanitarian assistance due to the impacts of many years of conflict, chronic food insecurity, displacement, broad economic crisis, and climatic events.
With GAC’s support, Save the Children Canada helps provide lifesaving humanitarian health, nutrition, and psychosocial support in Afghanistan. Project activities include: (1) providing essential health services, including psychosocial support; (2) training health care providers; (3) rehabilitating health facilities; and (4) providing protection services.

Complex Emergencies in Afghanistan and Lebanon – Health and protection response – World Vision Canad

October 2024 – The complex emergencies and ongoing crises in Afghanistan and Lebanon severely worsened humanitarian conditions, increasing health and protection services needs. In Afghanistan, years of conflict, economic collapse, displacement, and climate-related disasters created urgent and sustained needs across the country. Similarly, in Lebanon, ongoing conflict and displacement significantly disrupted livelihoods and undermined essential services delivery, leaving vulnerable populations in desperate need of support.
With GAC’s support, World Vision Canada helps provide lifesaving and gender-responsive health and protection assistance to vulnerable people in Afghanistan and Lebanon. Project activities include: (1) providing emergency health assistance; (2) providing technical and material support to health care systems; (3) promoting health, hygiene and nutrition; and (4) providing protection services.

UN Women Institutional Support 2024-2027

This grant represents Canada’s long-term institutional support to the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). Canada’s core funding is used to support UN Women’s triple mandate of support for gender equality norms and standards; UN System coordination and operational work. Canada's support to UN Women helps to advance Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy as well as Canada’s international efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Working for the empowerment and rights of women and girls globally, UN Women’s main roles are: to support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms; to assist Member States in implementing these standards through its operational work by providing technical and financial support to countries that request it and to forge effective partnerships with civil society; and to lead and coordinate the UN system’s work on gender equality, as well as promote accountability, through regular monitoring of system-wide progress.

Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention in Belize and Suriname

The project will help lower rates of adolescent pregnancy, and allow girls and young women in Belize and Suriname to realize their sexual and reproductive health and rights. The project will have positive impacts on adolescents and young people across both countries, but will focus on indigenous and tribal adolescent girls and young women in select regions of Belize and Suriname. The project will do this by making clinics more adolescent-friendly and culturally appropriate; increasing access to contraceptives; implementing an out-of-school comprehensive sexuality education curriculum to reach indigenous and tribal adolescents in their communities; creating and using culturally appropriate educational materials; and gathering and using data to help policymakers make informed decisions about advancing adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights, particularly for indigenous and tribal groups.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provides international protection and assistance to the world’s refugees, stateless persons, asylum seekers, and in some instances, internally displaced persons. UNHCR searches for lasting solutions to their situations.
With the support of GAC and other donors, this project provides assistance and protection to refugees, internally displaced persons and other persons of concern across the world over four years. Project activities include: (1) providing shelter, clothing and other essential non-food items; (2) providing adequate water, sanitation and health services, including in reproductive health; (3) providing opportunities for education and livelihoods support; (4) providing protection, including against sexual and gender-based violence, child protection and working with governments to register asylum seekers and refugees, and help issue identity documents; (5) working with governments to support refugee self-reliance and forge peaceful relations between refugees and local citizens; and (6) expanding opportunities for durable solutions for people of concern.

This project aims to increase the inclusive, sustainable, and gender-sensitive socio-economic well-being of Venezuelan migrants and refugees and vulnerable members of host communities, especially women, while emphasizing LGBTQI+ individuals' inclusion and Indigenous groups. Project activities include: (1) providing legal and financial support services to Venezuelan migrants and refugees to regularize their migration status; (2) training participants on soft and technical skills to enable them to access employment opportunities; (3) working with private sector companies to address barriers to decent work; and (4) supporting government capacity strengthening to ensure inclusive, equitable, and gender-sensitive livelihoods programming.

UNFPA focuses on three main areas: reproductive health and rights, gender equality, and population and development strategies.
Canada’s support to UNFPA contributes to increasing access to reproductive health, developing development policies that take population dynamics into account, and improving the status of girls and women worldwide.

Guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF supports the rights of children to help meet their basic needs and expand opportunities for children to reach their full potential. UNICEF seeks to improve the social and economic conditions of children by ensuring that they have access to health care, clean water, food, and education. UNICEF also works to ensure that children are protected from violence and abuse and receive relief in disasters.
Canada's support to UNICEF helps to advance Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy. This policy seeks to help the poorest and most vulnerable, support fragile states and underpin Canada’s international efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
