March 2025 – The population in Gaza continues to grapple with severe shortages of food, healthcare, medical supplies, clean water, and fuel. The UN estimates that the entire population of Gaza, more than 2 million people, require emergency assistance. Concurrently, the West Bank is facing escalating violence, significant displacement, and movement restrictions, all of which are worsening the overall humanitarian crisis.

With GAC’s support, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) emergency response in Syria and Lebanon contributes to meeting Palestinian refugees’ needs.

With the support of GAC and other donors, the United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) provides critical humanitarian assistance supporting the Interagency Flash Appeal. Project activities include: (1) providing basic food commodities and water; (2) providing essential non-food items such as blankets, mattresses and hygiene kits; (3) providing primary healthcare in emergency shelters; (4) maintaining UNRWA shelters, including installation of water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities, to provide essential protection for displaced persons; and (5) accounting for persons with special needs in emergency response including children, women, elderly and pregnant and lactating women.

With GAC’s support, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) emergency response in Syria and Lebanon contributes to meeting Palestinian refugees’s needs.

This project provides support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East's (UNRWA) 2023 Emergency Appeal for the West Bank and Gaza. Funding contributes to: (1) providing emergency food assistance to over 1.3 million Palestinian refugees; (2) providing cash for work economic opportunities to approximately 46,000 individuals to alleviate abject poverty; (3) covering the hospitalization needs and provide critical medications to poor Palestine refugees who cannot afford care; (4) basic education and back-to-school supplies to elementary and preparatory school students (including students with disabilities); (5) school psychosocial counsellors across all UNRWA schools in the Gaza Strip and mental health and psychosocial support counselling to vulnerable refugees (including women of reproductive age, children, older persons and persons with disabilities); (6) shelter repair; (7) ensuring that safe complaint and feedback channels are accessible and known to the refugee population, including complaints related to serious misconduct and sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA); (8) improved sanitation and hygiene, flood prevention and mitigation, and (9) urgent WASH facility upgrades.

With GAC’s support, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) emergency response in Syria and Lebanon is contributing to meet the needs of Palestinian refugees.

The project aims to improve the quality of education for children, especially girls, enrolled in the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) primary schools in the West Bank and Gaza.
