Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Feminist Solutions to Climate Change-Driven Food Insecurity
7456920 P012604001
The Feminist Solutions to Climate Change-Driven Food Insecurity (FEMIN-ACT) project aims to address Iraq’s poverty reduction and food insecurity in Iraq through an integrated approach to agricultural development. It aims to enhance the capacity of smallholder farmers to operationalize best practices of climate-smart agriculture, such as drip irrigation systems, reduced pesticide use and increased use of drought-resistant crop varieties. These techniques focus on reducing water consumption, increasing productivity, and boosting income, reducing poverty and increasing food security. Moreover, the project aims to enhance the participation of women alongside men farmers to fully engage in the agriculture field. It aims to create an enabling environment empowering women and youth to exercise their leadership potential through networking and collaboration with other farmers, farmers unions, and associations to connect, share knowledge, and enhance their capacity to make informed decisions. Finally, this project contributes to strengthening the knowledge and skills among food value chain actors to be more productive, market-integrated, and sustainable.

Programme de nutrition d’urgence global – Action contre la faim 2024 à 2026
7457508 P012726001
July 2023 - Global food insecurity is at an all-time high. According to the 2022 Global Nutrition Report, one in 10 people worldwide are hungry or undernourished. Deteriorating economic conditions, conflict, climate change and infectious disease outbreaks continue to undermine years of progress on good nutrition and food security. Estimates show that by the end of 2022, at least 222 million people across 53 countries will need urgent starvation assistance. The undernutrition crisis shows no signs of slowing.
With GAC’s support, Action Against Hunger aims to provide lifesaving assistance to address the urgent needs of up to 2,000,000 crisis-affected people across the globe over three years. This project focuses on improving the nutritional status of vulnerable populations, through delivering emergency nutrition and complementary health and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services in approximately ten countries each year. The project also includes a global technical component to provide gender-responsive nutrition technical support services to global, regional and local actors.
Project activities include: (1) providing treatment of severe acute malnutrition for girls and boys under the age of five and women of reproductive age; (2) providing gender-sensitive health support for women, girls and boys, such as access to baby and child-friendly spaces and gender-based violence referral pathways; (3) providing gender-sensitive WASH services at the community level and in health facilities; (4) providing sexual reproductive health and rights services and support for the decision-making role of women; (5) providing mental health gender-based violence-related support for women, girls, men and boys; and (6) providing nutrition technical support services to global, regional and local actors.
