Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

This project will develop technologies tailored for space applications, enabling immersive synthetic data generation, simulation, and real-time interaction in extended reality environments. The Mixed Reality platform will support critical use cases across the space sector—including autonomous mission planning, astronaut training, satellite operations, & space sustainability assessments. The platform will provide a spatial computing environment where users collaborate and interact with high-fidelity simulations of spacecraft systems, space asset monitoring and mission workflows. Through these interactive experiences, the platform will generate valuable datasets, to enhance AI models operational readiness, system design, command and control.

Human space operations will include many demanding tasks, time-consuming and dangerous repetitive tasks for astronauts can be offloaded to robot assistants. Activities like space station repair, monitoring and maintenance and inventory making can be passed along from crew members to free-flying or humanoid robots. Teleoperated robotic arms can augment human capabilities and enable operators to perform difficult tasks in harsh environments. Columbiad is developing the next generation Mixed Reality command and control station for teleoperated robots. The objective of this project is to design and build a 3D Printed robotic systems to to augment and expand human capabilities and human utility.

Commercial Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) are improving productivity in many industrial applications, they provide a disruptive platform for surveillance, search and rescue, agricultural practices, industrial uses, such as automated inspections and gas detection etc. Flight times of UAS are limited due to today’s battery technology. The objective of this project is to investigate and develop new approaches to increase flight times of unmanned systems by utilizing battery/energy swapping technologies to extend flight times for airships and/or drones to support continuous operations.
