Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Scaling and circularity of high‑nickel cathodes for next‑generation Li‑ion batteries
1035021
The project will develop and industrialize nickel‑rich layered‑oxide cathode active materials that deliver high-energy density with reduced cobalt content, and will validate their performance in industry‑relevant cell formats. Hydro-Québec’s Centre of Excellence for Transportation Electrification and Energy Storage and the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) will collaborate on material design, pilot synthesis, electrode engineering and cell manufacturing to accelerate scale‑up.

Development of high-voltage cathode materials based on olivine
1025828
The aim of the project is to develop new laboratory-based cathode materials olivine-based cathode materials as alternatives to lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. to benefit from the advantages of this technology, i.e. its low cost and proven safety. The project will also address the issue of the energy density limitations of low-voltage LFP cathodes. As part of this this Project, the Beneficiary and NRC will identify, synthesize synthesis, evaluation and characterization of olivine-based cathode materials olivine cathode materials of the LiMPO4 type, where M is a transition material of the same type as Fe, Mn, Co, Ni, or their combinations. Emphasis will be placed on stabilizing of the new high-voltage olivine cathode materials, by developing the surface coating, doping approaches and electrolyte formulations. electrolyte formulations demonstrating high-voltage stability. The teams will also assess the probability of scaling up the materials, and their materials, as well as their level of technological maturity with a view to industrialization.

This study of such effects will improve upon existing approaches by including recently discovered unusual magnetic impulses, with unusual auroras, as well as a dense network of magnetic measuring devices near the Hydro-Québec power network. Practical insight as well as foundational knowledge about space weather will result.
