Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Intelligent horticultural lighting solution optimized for growth and energy savings
1029649
Greenhouse agriculture is essential to Canadians, helping to meet the year-round demand for fresh, quality produce. However, greenhouses need artificial lighting to complement natural light, particularly during the winter months. It has been proven that the quality of light has a direct impact on plant growth and quality. Sollum's intelligent luminaires produce high-quality light and spectrum that reproduce the sun's complete cycle, offering energy savings of up to 30% and increased productivity of up to 40%.
The aim of this SDTC project is to develop an intelligent horticultural lighting solution optimized for growth and energy savings. The solution uses luminaires that compensate for natural light by producing high-quality artificial light that dynamically adjusts to light conditions in greenhouses. Sollum plans to deploy 9375 luminaires across 2.5 hectares of greenhouses. The environmental benefits over the next 5 years represent a reduction in electrical installation of 39.5 MW, and a reduction in electricity consumption of 110.5 GWh per year, as well as a saving of 2.4 to 14.0kg of mercury due to the non-deployment of HPS lamps.

Re-architect dynamically-programmable LED lighting, for performance, cost, and supply-chain
1016162
Development of a new generation of a connected industrial horticultural lightning platform, including hardware and software . The new generation offering will close the gap with legacy technologies and enable accelerated adoption of dynamic lighting for bringing to market unprecedented levels of operational productivity, nutritional and taste quality, and improved products shelf life. It will also enable greenhouse growers to lower carbon emissions through power management strategies only possible with dynamic lighting. Modulable light intensity and spectrum enables light compensation during the winter, leading the way to new paradigms in food sovereignty for Canada.
