Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Agreement:

AI-guided solutions for the optimization and smart control in mineral processing

Agreement Number:

1039736

Duration: from Jan 26, 2026 to Mar 31, 2027
Description:

The Project focuses on two strategic activities to enhance the operational capabilities of the CBMI AI-guided processing acceleration platform (PAP) for critical mineral extraction. The first activity involves creating a comprehensive and high-quality industrial-level dataset that documents process parameters, aiding in the development of AI models and controllers for mineral processing. The Recipient will contribute their expertise in sustainable lithium-ion battery technology and mineral processing to generate this dataset. The second activity targets optimizing mineral processing through AI models, which will automate parameter adjustments, reduce costs, and improve efficiency. These AI-driven solutions will enhance process control and contribute to the SDL's development, aligning with CBMI's objectives. The team brings expertise in materials discovery and process optimization to the Project.

(Assignment Agreement) FPCM - Pilot Demo of Advanced Circuit Technology for Critical Minerals Recovery

Agreement Number:

1040149

Duration: from Dec 8, 2025 to Mar 30, 2026
Description:

Syntra will conduct a pilot-scale demonstration of its proprietary Syncore. This project will process a range of complex, real-world Canadian feedstocks to validate the Syncore's superior recovery rates (>99%), environmental performance, and economic viability. The successful pilot will de-risk the technology for commercial scale-up and secure offtake agreements for our planned 1,000-tonne demonstration facility, anchoring a critical new cleantech capability in Canada.

(Assignment Agreement) Development of innovative processing control systems critical minerals processing technology process flow and design

Agreement Number:

1040152

Duration: from Dec 8, 2025 to Mar 31, 2026
Description:

Syntra will develop advanced process control systems for critical minerals recovery technology, optimizing extraction efficiency and reducing energy consumption. The project involves creating integrated control systems for sequence-based recovery circuits with real-time monitoring and adaptive parameter adjustment for variable feedstock. Leveraging learnings from developing collaborations, we'll build automation data to advance industry control language development. Expected outcomes include 20% reduction in energy/consumables usage, enhanced scalability to commercial operations, and improved recovery consistency across diverse feed sources.
