Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Data collection and processing for developing an annotation system designed for dairy cows

Agreement Number:

1009697

Duration: from Sep 1, 2023 to Mar 31, 2024
Description:

The project will collect and process the data required for developing an online annotation system for dairy cows. Developing such a system requires collecting thousands of images from the animal with variety of poses to train and improve the accuracy of the results. The image pre and post processing, manual and semi automated labelling and ML application will be the following major steps. The online annotation system will benefit the researchers, dairy industry and academia whom are in need of the service.

Youth Employment - Develop Artifical Intelligence Based Product for Conformation Traits Scoring

Agreement Number:

977372

Duration: from Sep 1, 2021 to Mar 31, 2022
Description:

Our innovative product (iClassifier) is an AI-based technology for smart agriculture and particularly for dairy industries. The goal is to develop a smart product for scoring conformation or linear type traits of cows. At this stage, we are developing an APP that allows the users to use their cell phones to capture guided images from their livestock and load the images on our platform. Ultimately, iClassifier will automatically facilitate the scoring practice for the dairy producers using image processing methods. An automated scoring device is designed and will be developed to fully automate the process.
