Description:

The objective of the project is to produce certified organic mixed vegetables, herbs and fruits using bio-intensive production methods. All vegetables are marketed through the Local Food Box Program (LFB), a multi-farm Community Supported Agriculture Service that brings together farmers from Metchosin to share a customer base and offer program members access to local and seasonal fruits and vegetables, meats, eggs, flowers, and honey. The intern will assist in the production of fruits and vegetables and general farm maintenance. This includes: harvesting, washing and packaging fruits and vegetables; preparing fields for plantings; assisting seeding and transplanting; applying soil amendments and fertilizers; managing weeds; preventing pest damage by installing row cover; pruning and trellising greenhouse crops; maintaining tools and equipment; interacting with customers; and other tasks related to farm expansion.
