The expected outcome of the project is to identify opportunities for Indigenous Peoples in the plant-based protein industry through the Protein Industries Canada Supercluster, with a key outcome being gathering information to develop and implement the training/education necessary to bridge a gap between having the resources available (i.e., land) and needing the tools (i.e., expertise, access to markets) to support Indigenous participation in the sector, from production to marketing.

Amend#1 reflects an extension on the completion date of project and a new FY amounts updated accordingly.

The Indigenous Agriculture and Food Systems Initiative (IAFSI) will support Indigenous communities and entrepreneurs who are ready to launch agriculture and food systems projects and others who want to build their capacity to participate in the Canadian agriculture and agri-food sector. The objective of the IAFSI is to increase economic development opportunities for Indigenous Peoples’ by building their capacity to participate and succeed in the Sector.
