Title:
Deploying the Digital Sense of Smell to Enable AI-powered Automation in Controlled Environment Agriculture
Agreement Number:
ISC-CEA-009-PH-01-007539
Agreement Value:
$150,000.00
Agreement Date:
Apr 16, 2022 - Oct 15, 2022
Description:
The objective of this project has two of the most important factors affecting CEA yield and as a result labour intensity are 1) under/over ripening issues and 2) mold formation due to soil-borne fungal pathogens. However, these critical issues can be addressed effectively if the lead indicators could be detected early. Stratuscent’s electronic nose technology has the potential to automate the identification and tracking of the volatiles/odours released from ripening conditions or mold presence to optimize yield and operations.
Organization:
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada
Expected Results:

This project aims to improve mold detection and reduce ripening-based wastage which can be further integrated across the entire food supply chain, creating a significant economic as well as social impact. It will help greenhouse operators to offer their locally grown products at a higher quality and more competitive price.
