Title:
Conversion of Food Waste into Stable Biocarbon as a Carbon Sequestration and Methane Reduction Solution
Agreement Number:
FWRC-D075-2
Agreement Value:
$449,383.00
Agreement Date:
Jan 6, 2023 - Dec 1, 2023
Description:
The objective of this project is to chemically break down or “pyrolyze” food waste into constituent elements, primarily carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. The gaseous elements are removed from the reactor and can be used to produce sustainable energy. The carbon is left behind. This newly formed biocarbon is stable and can be used in a variety of value-added applications.
Organization:
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada
Expected Results:

Focus on technologies that transform food waste by converting surplus food, food by-products, or food waste into other products, including: food for humans, food for animals/insects, or non-food products.
