Title:
Piloting Plant Fiber-Based Polymer Blends: Leveraging Alberta's Feedstock for Sustainable Innovation
Agreement Number:
ACT-RI-360
Agreement Value:
$955,150.00
Agreement Date:
Apr 1, 2024 - Mar 31, 2028
Description:
This project aims to conduct a pilot study of forming Plant Fiber-Based (PFB) polymer blend using Canadian feedstock, that no only can produce drinking straws but other cutlery/food packing products. The project uses locally sourced plant fiber materials such as sugar beet pulp, spent grain, hemp processing by-products, and starch as a by-product of pea processing, combining with Plant Plus' property binding agent PPB49 to produce plant fiber-based polymer blend. This cutting-edge production costs and the carbon footprint of the final products, representing a circular economy model towards the long-term goal of sustainable culture and food processing
