SCAP-ASP-004
Agreement Value:
$2,542,842.00
Agreement Date:
Sep 6, 2023 - Mar 31, 2028
Description:
This project aims to develop innovative berry genetics and molecular markers for fruit yield, quality, and pest & disease resistance as well as to sequester carbon and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through climate-smart production practices such as efficient nitrogen use, cover cropping, and alternatives to pesticides.
Organization:
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada
Expected Results:

Overall the project objective is to breed climate-resilient blueberry, raspberry, and strawberry germplasm and cultivars adapted to Canadian environments supported by development of genetic markers. Develop climate-smart cover cropping, organic amendment, fertilizer, and integrated pest management (IPM) best management practices (BMPs) to drive C sequestration during and between blueberry and raspberry cropping cycles and reduce reliance of chemical pesticides.
