The United States offshore wind energy market is stalled, and SMEs are quickly seeking new markets for their goods and services. MRC consulted with members who identified the UK and Europe are key markets of interest with immediate opportunities while South America shows significant promise as a medium-term opportunity. Wind Europe is a flagship event in the sector.
Related Atlantic Canada expertise has developed from decades of engagement in sectors such as offshore energy, defense, marine operations, and ocean technologies. Key capabilities include ocean science and technology, data collection and characterization, device/generator developers, power project developers, utilities, engineering and environmental consultants, manufacturers and fabricators, certification, insurance, vessel operations, marine transportation, port facilities/services, and marine research.
Key medium-term outcomes:
- Enhanced Atlantic Canada visibility and reputation as a marine renewable energy leader.
- Promotion of Atlantic Canada businesses.
- Engagement and relationship building with UK, European and South America supply chains and partners. Relations with key sector participants in the USA are also engaged for the in-bound trade mission.
- Enhanced Atlantic Canada company capacity for international business success.
- Develop and grow international collaborations.
- Commercial projects and contracts.
Short term measurables include:
- Recruit twenty companies to participate in the outgoing mission. Attract 15 key industry participants for the in-bound trade mission.
- Increase participating companies exports by $500,000
- Create five new exporters
- Twenty companies reporting enhanced knowledge or business leads
- Help ten existing exporters diversify their markets
- Develop three new international partnerships for Atlantic Canada
