Description:
The Kivalliq Inuit Association (KIA) will conduct field studies and engagement activities with communities throughout the Kivalliq region of Nunavut and Manitoba. These activities will support the potential to develop a hydroelectric and fibre-optic link between the province of Manitoba and the Kivalliq region of Nunavut. This proposal includes preliminary geomorphological, biophysical, heritage and permafrost studies to be conducted along the proposed route of the fibre-optic link. The project will also include engagement activities with communities and traditional land use studies. The traditional land use studies will be conducted amongst the First Nations communities throughout Manitoba as well as Inuit in Nunavut through Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.

Expected Results:
As a result of this project, the proponent will advance the proposed Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre Link (KHFL) project design work, field studies and other development activities. The proponent will create and maintain 25 jobs and expand 10 jobs over the duration of the project.
