Description:
Conduct targeted scientific research to support Nunavut's fisheries sector. The project will cover a number of strategic gaps in knowledge for the fisheries sector to sustainably expand the fisheries or improve current practices as well as routine research requirements to maintain the existing fisheries. The project will monitor current fisheries stock to ensure sustainability, test new technologies to determine the viability of adding species to Nunavut's commercial fisheries (both inshore and offshore), and test and research different practices to reduce the environmental impact of the fisheries sector by reducing bycatch and the environmental impacts of trawling.
