As a result of this project, there will be a better understanding of the stock or population structure of Greenland Halibut, Greenland Shark and Arctic Skate surrounding northeast Baffin Island.This data will be used to support the continued development of Nunavut's inshore and offshore fishing industry, which will facilitate Indigenous/Inuit access to stock allocations, the creation of employment opportunities for Inuit fish harvesters and processors in Nunavut as well as increase local food security.
Inclusive Diversification and Economic Advancement in the North (IDEANorth) makes foundational investments in economic infrastructure, sector development and capacity building to help position Northerners in the territories to take advantage of Canada's innovation economy. The IDEANorth program focuses on four priority areas: economic growth and sector development; business scale-up, productivity and innovation; small-scale economic infrastructure development; and foundational economic infrastructure.
