Description:
The Territorial Agri-food Association will receive a non-repayable contribution of $99,900 (58% of total project costs) to complete a three-year $171,650 project to host the next three annual agricultural conferences, each focusing on different and important entrepreneurial benefits of micro businesses in the north in the agri-food sector, as well as revamping their website to include broader knowledge dissemination. Additionally, they will mobilize and disseminate the information developed and shared at the annual conference beyond those in attendance to ensure broader access by traveling around the NWT to regional centers and sharing this information, along with access to their website and resources that are created/updated prior to the GROW NWT conference.

Expected Results:

As a result of this project, the Territorial Agri-food Association will have fostered an emerging sector-specific event that allows for networking, knowledge building, and collaboration within the agriculture sector, contributing to the growth of micro and small businesses. The knowledge dissemination through their website and community visits will help new entrants to the sector and accelerate the growth of existing sector participants.

Program Purpose:

Supports food security in Northern and Indigenous communities by helping to strengthen and support Indigenous and northern food systems in Canada’s North, reducing food insecurity, and seeking out creative solutions to food challenges across Canada’s North. This initiative will also support investments in northern small- to medium-enterprises, territorial governments, and community organizations pursuing food security related initiatives.
