Description:
The Thebacha Leadership council will undertake a 3-year project that will support research on economic opportunities related to Whooping Crane conservation, including hosting a Northern Whooping Crane Festival in Fort Smith, NT, exploring the viability of crane-viewing tours, and bringing conservationists and conservation groups to the region.

Expected Results:

Community consultations will be conducted by a Research Professional, who will provide a report to the TLC on the potential economic benefits. Representatives from the TLC will attend the February 2025 Port Aransas Whooping Crane Festival in Texas, US to experience firsthand the economic benefits of an established event and more importantly to strengthen relationships with a broader network of potential future collaborators and festival attendees to Fort Smith.
