Description:
An Above- and Below-Ground Study relating to effects of Permafrost Degradation on the City's Utilidor infrastructure. The prjoect involves a research partnership with the National Research Council Canada (NRC) which will investigate the impacts of climate change on permafrost degradation, and its effects on the City of Iqaluit's underground Utilidor infrastructure. The project will also investigate the long-term viability of the underground Utilidor infrastructure, while assessing the practicality of above-ground infrastructure as an alternative to limiting the impacts of climate change on the degradation of permafrost. This activity will consider a feasibility level study that will investigate the comparison of both alternatives from a technical, constructability, environmental, and financial standpoint.

Une étude en surface et sous terre concernant les effets de la dégradation du pergélisol sur l'infrastructure utilitaire de la ville. Le projet implique un partenariat de recherche avec le Conseil national de recherches du Canada (CNRC) qui étudiera les impacts du changement climatique sur la dégradation du pergélisol et ses effets sur l'infrastructure souterraine des services publics de la ville d'Iqaluit. Le projet étudiera également la viabilité à long terme de l'infrastructure souterraine d'Utilidor, tout en évaluant l'aspect pratique d'une infrastructure en surface comme solution de rechange pour limiter les impacts du changement climatique sur la dégradation du pergélisol. Cette activité consistera en une étude de faisabilité qui examinera la comparaison des deux alternatives d'un point de vue technique, constructif, environnemental et financier.
