Yukon University, through the Centre for Northern Innovation in Mining, is receiving a non repayable contribution in the amount of $703,812 (45% of total project costs) towards a two-year $1,558,062 commercial driving project to expand their existing program and grow its ability to provide commercial driver training in communities outside Whitehorse (namely Dawson City)

Expected Results:
As a result of the program, CNIM anticipates the permanent creation of 1.5 FTE employees (Simulator Technician and Commercial Driving Instructor) and the maintenance and expansion of 1.0 FTE job (Coordinator and Logistical Support). In addition to job creation and more importantly, the Advancing Commercial Driving Project will equip new commercial drivers with the skills needed to meet the needs of the local labour market.

Program Purpose:
Inclusive Diversification and Economic Advancement in the North (IDEANorth) makes foundational investments in economic infrastructure, sector development and capacity building to help position Northerners in the territories to take advantage of Canada’s innovation economy. The IDEANorth program focuses on four priority areas: economic growth and sector development; business scale-up, productivity and innovation; small-scale economic infrastructure development; and foundational economic infrastructure.
