Description:
This project aims to improve the ability of the BC poultry industry to manage destruction activities, such as the culling of birds, during an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). The project will create a long-term depopulation and biocontainment training plan and establish resources for potential future HPAI outbreaks.

Expected Results:
This project is expected to result in the following:
a) Increased surge capacity of trained HPAI-destruction contractors in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia.
b) Significantly increased industry/producer awareness of preventive measures and risk reduction strategies to avoid introducing a pest or disease.
c) A completed HPAI response-preparedness model that could be used to support industry/producer participation in other foreign animal disease responses (e.g. African swine fever or Foot-and-Mouth Disease).
