Agreement Value:
$135,000.00
Agreement Date:

Description:
Project to provide technical assistance and new operational tools that increase the ability of the Mexican government to process asylum claims and make effective refugee status determination decisions.
Organization:
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada
Expected Results:

Building on Canada's support to the UNHCR to improve asylum systems in the Americas, this project will build the capacity and efficiency of the Mexican government to process asylum claims, strengthening of the Mexican asylum system and providing protection to refugees arriving in Mexico.

This project will develop a registration module that will allow the Government of Mexico to streamline asylum registration and reduce timelines for claim initiation. It will help establish a dedicated Country Origin Information (COI) unit within the Mexican Commission for Refugee Aid, and finally will operationalize a pilot for a language platform, allowing for claims to be presented in languages that are difficult for Mexican officials to process.
