Description:
• The CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative, managed by the CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity (III), is responsible for the funding, management and oversight of research with a primary focus on HIV/AIDS and/or other STBBI (as identified in the Public Health Agency of Canada’s pan-Canadian STBBI framework for action). This includes, but is not limited to: human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B (HBV) and C (HCV), chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and human papilloma virus (HPV). This funding is provided across all CIHR Research Themes: biomedical research, clinical research, health services research and social, cultural, environmental and population health research.
• Research that focuses on key populations identified by Canada’s pan-Canadian STBBI framework for action is highly encouraged.

Expected Results:

The program mobilizes researchers, patients, health providers, and decision makers to conduct research, enable knowledge translation and build capacity in the priority areas. It often requires collaboration within and across sectors.
