Description:
The CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (CIHR-ICRH) has the broad mandate of supporting research on the heart, lung, brain (stroke), blood, blood vessels, critical and intensive care, and sleep. This Priority Announcement is focused on conditions of the lung and the respiratory system across the lifespan. • The proposed research should focus on understanding, preventing, diagnosing and/or treating respiratory diseases and conditions that affect individuals at different stages of life. • Research focusing on more than one (1) developmental or intergenerational period over the lifespan is encouraged. Examples include, but are not limited to: o one developmental period before and after age 18, or o different developmental periods across generations (e.g. biological parent and fetus or offspring), or o two (2) developmental periods in females related to puberty, child-bearing age and menopause. • Sex and gender consideration should be integrated as appropriate. For the purpose of this Priority Announcement: • Respiratory diseases include, but are not limited to asthma, smoking and/or vaping, exercise-induced respiratory issues, COPD, and occupational lung disease.
