This directed grant is for $100,000 total over two fiscal years provided as a $27,000 supplement in fiscal year 2023-2024 and $73,000 in 2024-2025.
The objectives of the supplemental funds are to enable the National Cohort Training Program (NCTP) program host to:
• Incorporate the first cohort of (anticipated) 12 recipients of the Health System Impact Embedded Early Career Researcher Award into the NCTP with relevant, high-quality training and networking opportunities;
• Align the NCTP’s training and curriculum to reflect the refreshed Health Services and Policy Research Enriched Core Competency Framework anticipated to be released in Fall 2023; and
• Implement evaluation and impact assessment strategies to evaluate the NCTP’s outcomes and impacts.

The fostering of a national cohort of embedded scholars, health system and academic leaders with a shared commitment to evidence-informed decision-making and equipped with high-quality training, networking and capacity development opportunities contributes to cross-cohort learning and collaboration and is a key strategy for building a talented, high-performing embedded research workforce and advancing learning health systems in Canada.
