Description:
European Program for Life and Physical Sciences and Applications in Space (ELIPS): The following contribution has been awarded under the European Space Agency (ESA) Contribution Program pursuant the Cooperation Agreement signed between the Government of Canada and the European Space Agency (ESA). The ELIPS Program allows Europe to capitalize on its investments into the ISS infrastructure and also to use independent mission platform assets in order to enable world leading contributions to progress in the areas of : Fundamental research, in both physical and life sciences; Applied Research, and industry driven Research and Development (R&D); Preparation of Human Exploration of space; Development of advanced technologies to support the optimum utilization of ISS and future space infrastructures; and Education.

Contributions under the Canada/European Space Agency (ESA) Cooperation Agreement
Program Purpose:

The main objectives of the Program are to: - Foster innovation and competitiveness by exposing Canadian space organisations to ESA's Programs and activities dedicated to developing space technologies, applications and hardware; - Maintain or increase the capability of the domestic space sector to successfully contribute to Canadian space endeavours by providing access to ESA's space flight opportunities in order to demonstrate and qualify Canadian space technologies and hardware; - Facilitate access to European public space markets as well as global space public and private markets, when applicable; and - Acquire and maintain awareness of the directions of European space policies and of the European space technological, scientific, programmatic and commercial environments to feed the CSA's strategic planning process. In addition, Canadian participation in ESA programmes may: - Facilitate the participation of Canadian scientists in ESA missions; and - Facilitate access to ESA's data and/or infrastructure to academia and government departments/agencies.
