Description:
GMES Space Component Programme (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security/ Surveillance mondiale pour l'environnement et la s‚curit‚). The following contribution has been awarded under the European Space Agency (ESA) Contribution Program pursuant the Cooperation Agreement signed between the Government of Canada and the European Space Agency (ESA). The overall objective of the GMES initiative is to support Europe's goals regarding sustainable development and global governance of the environment by providing timely and quality data, information, services and knowledge. The GMES Space Component aims at full operational provision of satellite data for GMES services and national uses.

The total value of the contribution is 800K Euros (2012 Economic conditions), with an estimated exchange rate of $1.50 /1 Euro and estimated inflation rate of 2.1%. Payments will be spread out from 2014-15 to 2020-21.

Contributions under the Canada/European Space Agency (ESA) Cooperation Agreement
Program Purpose:

The main objectives of the Program are to: - Foster innovation and competitiveness by exposing Canadian space organisations to ESA's Programs and activities dedicated to developing space technologies, applications and hardware; - Maintain or increase the capability of the domestic space sector to successfully contribute to Canadian space endeavours by providing access to ESA's space flight opportunities in order to demonstrate and qualify Canadian space technologies and hardware; - Facilitate access to European public space markets as well as global space public and private markets, when applicable; and - Acquire and maintain awareness of the directions of European space policies and of the European space technological, scientific, programmatic and commercial environments to feed the CSA's strategic planning process. In addition, Canadian participation in ESA programmes may: - Facilitate the participation of Canadian scientists in ESA missions; and - Facilitate access to ESA's data and/or infrastructure to academia and government departments/agencies.
