Title:
Study of Electrical potential, Remote sensing, and Preservation of biosignatures at sites of serpentinization (SERP)
Agreement Number:
-
Agreement Value:
$199,943.00
Agreement Date:
Aug 31, 2018 - Sep 30, 2022
Description:
Water rock reaction, known as serpentinization, has the potential to support life on other worlds (planets and moons). Detecting life at sites of serpentinization on other worlds requires the ability to find serpentization sites and detect biosignatures. The SERP project aims to develop, deploy, and validate geophysical, spectral and remote sensing methods to detect surface and sub-surface expressions of serpentinization. It will help detect serpentinized springs and identify biosignatures of current life and biomarkers of past life.

Canadian Space Agency
Expected Results:

-Increased knowledge from research projects in priority space S&T areas (number of new and ongoing space science and technology initiatives and projects).
-Number of completed space science and technology initiatives (Announcement of Opportunity) and projects (number of highly qualified personnel (research team) involved in space science and technology initiatives and projects).
-Maintained and/or increased space focus in universities, post-secondary institutions, and not-for-profit and for-profit organizations (number of universities, post-secondary institutions and not-for-profit and for-profit organizations involved in financed projects).
-Partnerships established and/or sustained (number and type of new partnerships created and sustained, number of research partnerships (national and international)).
