Grants and Contributions:

Title:
Machine learning based beamforming algorithms for satellite communications
Agreement Number:
22STDPR22
Agreement Value:
$250,000.00
Agreement Date:
Feb 1, 2023 - Jun 30, 2024
Description:
The project involves the exploration, prototyping, and testing of machine learning (ML) beamforming techniques. A testbed will be built to train and test models for inferring Angle of Arrival (AoA) and Angle of Departure (AoD) on a phased array antenna system. The models will be trained with design requirements applicable to a satellite and ground equipment context. The system will demonstrate a method where automatic, independent, and passive system self-configuration for optimal operation between satellite and ground equipment. The resulting technology could establish robust, secure, and high throughput access in previously inaccessible areas.
Organization:
Canadian Space Agency
Expected Results:

The Research component of the program provides financial support to organizations to conduct space related research and development in priority areas. It will support targeted knowledge development and innovation to sustain and enhance the Canadian capacity to use space to address national needs and priorities in the future.
