Title:
The MIRI Excess Around Degenerates Survey
Agreement Number:
23JWGO2B07
Agreement Value:
$39,051.00
Agreement Date:
Feb 15, 2024 - Apr 30, 2026
Description:
Following the JWST ERS and Cycle 2 GO Announcement of Opportunity published on July 6, 2023, the CSA is providing funding via a Grant Agreement to the university to conduct their research using the JWST data. This project will conduct a survey proposal of 249 white dwarf stars within 25 parsecs of the sun in order to constrain the flux distributions of a large number of white dwarfs in the mid-infrared. The goal is to detect infrared excesses from cool brown dwarfs, young Jupiters, optically thin dust disks from shredding exo-planetesimals, and cyclotron emission from magnetic white dwarfs. These detections will define white dwarf science (and other fields) with JWST.
Organization:
Canadian Space Agency
Expected Results:

The Research component of the program provides financial support to organizations to conduct space related research
and development in priority areas. It will support targeted knowledge development and innovation to sustain and enhance the Canadian capacity to use space to address national needs and priorities in the future.
