Title:
Surveying Hellish Worlds: Lava Planets as Time Capsules of Thermal Evolution
Agreement Number:
25JWGO4A12
Agreement Value:
$99,990.00
Agreement Date:
Feb 12, 2026 - Mar 31, 2028
Description:
This project will use JWST/MIRI phase curves of five lava worlds to map their thermal emission and constrain interior states. By comparing dayside and nightside temperatures and detecting outgassed atmospheric species, the study will link atmospheric composition to interior melting and volcanic activity, offering new insight into the formation and evolution of rocky planets.
Organization:
Canadian Space Agency
Expected Results:

The Research component of the program provides financial support to organizations to conduct space related research and development in priority areas. It will support targeted knowledge development and innovation to sustain and enhance the Canadian capacity to use space to address national needs and priorities in the future.
