Description:
This project aims to improve the reliability of Selective Laser Melting (SLM) for manufacturing aluminum space components. By integrating high-resolution thermal imaging and machine learning, the project will monitor the manufacturing process in real time to detect and reduce defects such as solidification cracking. The goal is to develop an in-situ monitoring and feedback system that supports safer and more reliable on-demand manufacturing and repair of space structures.
Organization:
Canadian Space Agency
Expected Results:
The Research component of the program provides financial support to organizations to conduct space related research and development in priority areas. It will support targeted knowledge development and innovation to sustain and enhance the Canadian capacity to use space to address national needs and priorities in the future.
