Agreement Date:
Mar 18, 2019 - Dec 31, 2021
Description:
This funding represents Canada’s institutional support for the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator (RC) System. The RC System is comprised of 130 UN resident coordinators, who are the designated representatives of the UN Secretary General for development operations at the country level. The RC and their offices lead the strategic planning and coordination of 130 UN country teams (UNCTs) - bringing to bear the expertise of, on average, 18 UN entities per country, and also leveraging those UN entities that are not resident in the country. At the heart of the UN Secretary-General’s reform agenda of the UN development system, the RC function is responsible and accountable to ensure collective responses to national needs and ensure system-wide accountability on the ground for more strategic, coordinated and innovative programming, partnerships and investments towards the achievement of the SDGs. This involves overall responsibility for the delivery of results by a new generation of UN country teams, by coordinating operational activities for development, and ensuring greater coherence with humanitarian activities and peacebuilding efforts.
