Agreement Number:
7404664 P007434001
Agreement Value:
$1,000,000.00
Agreement Date:
Mar 29, 2019 - Dec 31, 2019
Description:
March 2019 - Severe food shortages and hyperinflation have put buying food and medicine out of reach for many Venezuelans and has heavily impacted their ability to meet basic needs. Over 3.3 million people have fled Venezuela since 2015, many of whom are currently residing in neighbouring countries such as Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. As the situation continues to deteriorate in Venezuela, vulnerable and crisis-affected populations are in need of critical assistance including basic health support, food security and nutrition, protection, and water and sanitation assistance. With GAC’s support, UNICEF is helping to reduce the vulnerability and maintain the dignity of displaced Venezuelans in various countries of South America and the Caribbean region. Project activities include: (1) increasing access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities; (2) providing basic healthcare; (3) treating children for severe acute malnutrition; (4) providing emergency education programming for children; and (5) ensuring protection services for children and women.
Organization:
Global Affairs Canada
Expected Results:

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased access to safe drinking water, sanitation facilities and hygiene education; (2) increased access to basic health care services; (3) increased access to services and commodities to identify and treat acute malnutrition for the most vulnerable, including children under the age of five, and pregnant and lactating women; (4) increased school enrollment and attendance rate; and (5) increased access to protection services, particularly for children and women.

The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved, suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained for the populations in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
