Description:
With GAC’s support, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is contributing to meeting the sexual and reproductive health needs of vulnerable women and girls in Africa, and preventing and responding to sexual and gender-based violence. During conflicts, natural disasters and other complex emergencies, sexual and reproductive health needs of women and girls must not be overlooked. It is essential to ensure life-saving interventions related to sexual and reproductive health services, and to provide protection from and response to sexual and gender-based violence for women and girls. This unearmarked regional funding provides UNFPA the flexibility to respond to emerging needs or underfunded operations throughout Africa. Project activities include: (1) providing emergency obstetric care, and sexual and reproductive health services to women and adolescent girls; (2) ensuring protection from and response to gender-based violence; and (3) providing health services, supplies, commodities and medication, dignity kits, and reproductive health kits to crisis-affected people.
