Description:
This Project supports UNICEF’s multi-sectoral response plan to COVID-19 in Mali, which seeks to to limit COVID-19 related mortality and consequences on protection, health and education for the most vulnerable children. Project activities include: i) developing gender responsive and age sensitive hygiene and infection prevention campaigns; ii) ensuring the availability of WASH services and products in healthcare facilities and schools and for vulnerable populations, such as internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities, iii) providing infection prevention and control materials and training to health care workers; iv) providing adequate protection services to girls and boys at risk, to prevent and respond to sexual abuse, family separation, gender based violence (GBV), and stigmatization; v) providing school aged children and their caregivers access to distance learning opportunities; and vi) supporting the schools in their preparedness to reopening and reintegrating vulnerable children in a safe learning environment. With Canada’s assistance, the Project aims to reach 5,000,000 people (50% women and girls) nationwide with adequate information on hygiene and other prevention measures through gender-responsive communication, community engagement, and social mobilization. Approximately 400,000 children aged 0 to 19 (50% girls) from six regions – Bamako, Mopti, Koulikouro, Timbuktu, Gao and Kayes - will benefit from targeted interventions in WASH, health, child protection and education.

Expected Results:

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) Human-to-Human transmission of COVID-19 is limited, particularly amongst vulnerable populations; (2) Impacts of the outbreak on child protection and access to education of vulnerable children, especially girls, are prevented and reduced.
