Description:
P008064001: This project aims to change social norms in families, communities, and schools, and improve the delivery of government services to reduce incidents of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) experienced by girls and young women, between the ages of 10 and 24, in Nampula province of Mozambique. Project activities include: (1) providing information to girls and young women on gender equality and rights, alternatives to early marriage, harmful traditional practices, and initiation rites, as well as on sexual reproductive health and rights and SGBV services; (2) engaging with men and boys to change attitudes on gender equality and support local and community-based women’s organizations to engage initiation matrons, women leaders and caregivers in dialogue on the protection of girls’ rights; and (3) providing training to teachers and school staff and encouraging dialogue between parents, students, teachers, and school leadership to empower girls and eliminate SGBV based at school. P008064002: This project funds activities to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in Mozambique. Project activities include: (1) raising awareness on good practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by translating material into Portuguese and disseminating it via community radio, television and social media; (2) orienting community health workers on the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic for women and girls; (3) supporting local health facilities by providing protective equipment to contain the spread of COVID-19; and (4) helping vulnerable girls and women and their families meet their essential needs, such as covering transportation cost to health clinics.

P008064001: The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved effectiveness of government protection institutions to deliver gender-responsive sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) services for girls and young women; (2) enhanced agency and decision-making by girls and young women to protect themselves from SGBV and be active change agents; and (3) enhanced community and support systems that advance gender equality for girls and young women by strengthening their agency, rights and protection from SGBV and gender discrimination.
