Description:
The project will ensure that girls realize their rights to safe, quality, gender-responsive education by improving the participation of adolescent girls in primary and secondary education. It will increase the availability of gender-responsive school facilities such as latrines and access to adolescent-friendly sexual and reproductive health services. The project will address the financial constraints faced by poor girls and their families by providing economic opportunities to support girls’ education. The project will offer reentry points for out-of-school girls, with particular attention to girls in remote communities and living with disabilities. To support girls’ transition from primary to secondary school, or to alternative learning programs for girls barred from enrolling due to pregnancy or early motherhood, KAGIS will implement cost-effective solutions to enable safe transport to secondary and alternative learning centres.

Expected Results:
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved agency of adolescent girls (defined as the capacity to act and exert power over one’s life) to exercise their rights to education and sexual and reproductive health; (2) improved provision of gender-responsive education and sexual and reproductive health services for adolescent girls; (3) strengthened local education sector governance to support access to safe, quality, gender-responsive schools.
