This project with the International Atomic Energy Agency will enhance nuclear security in key regions by strengthening capacity for the management of disused radioactive sources.

Expected Results:
  1. Update national registers of radioactive sources.
  2. Establish national policies and strategies for the management of DSRS.
  3. Select a management option (i.e., reuse/ recycling/ long-term storage and disposal/ repatriation) for all Category 1 and 2 sources in use or storage.
  4. Establish safe and secure storage facilities for DSRS until selected management option is implemented.
  5. Train regulatory staff and facility operators in the exercise of radiation safety and security of radioactive material activities related to RS in use, storage and transport.
  6. Category 1 and 2 DSRS managed in line with identified options.
