Description:
This project will aim to provide comprehensive support to the Government of Bangladesh to strengthen community policing in order to counter terrorism and violent extremism in Bangladesh. Along with strengthening the Community Police Units and capacities of the Community Police Officers, in line with the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and the Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism, the project will also aim to support and strengthen the government efforts to design, establish and implement the relevant key components of a Bangladesh national counter-terrorism strategy, including strengthening capacities of Anti-Terrorism Unit as lead agency for countering violent extremism.

Expected Results:

As a result of this initiative, the following Outcomes are expected:

-Establishment of an institutional framework for Bangladesh police to ensure effective strategic communications to counter violent extremism.

-Capacity of relevant stakeholders strengthened to ensure that they have in place strategic communications to reach target audience/stakeholders effectively.

-Local communities have a better understanding of law enforcement actions with special focus on community policing and have enhanced confidence in the police.

Program Purpose:

The Counter-Terrorism Capacity Building Program provides assistance to foreign states to enable them to prevent and respond to terrorist activity. It supports global efforts to fight terrorism and address terrorist threats to Canadians and Canadian interests throughout the world.
