Description:
Via this project, ODI-HPG will examine how the humanitarian sector can engage with the social
and political dynamics that influence humanitarian assistance through their new Integrated
Programme (IP). ODI-HPG will explore five research projects from a range of different angles,
in order to examine how the humanitarian sector can engage with the social and political
dynamics that influence humanitarian assistance.
Project activities for the Integrated Programme include: (1) Designing the research approach
and methodology through a comprehensive scoping and refining process; (2) Producing and
publishing in-depth research through literature reviews and case studies in partnership with
key actors; and (3) Develop final reports and recommendations and communicate findings through
policy engagement with key programme and policy actors.

Expected Results:
The expected results for this project include: (1) Improved humanitarian policy and practice
through a combination of high-quality analysis, dialogue and debate; (2) Contributions to
making humanitarian aid as responsive and relevant as possible; (3) Ability to inform ongoing discussions and learning in refugee policy, including the commitments to social inclusion in
the Global Compact on Refugees and forging stronger links across triple-nexus practitioners;
(4) Identified opportunities where the humanitarian protection community can strengthen their
understanding of their support to community engagement strategies; and (5) Facilitated advocacy
by aid organisations and government allies.
