Description:
The Strengthening Ethiopia’s Adaptive Safety Net (SEASN) project is a social protection initiative designed to reduce poverty and vulnerability among the rural poor and help to stabilize household health and nutrition during economic shocks, enhance livelihoods during stability, and enable people to overcome their vulnerability to food insecurity. The SEASN will support the Government of Ethiopia's efforts to improve the income of 2.5 million climate-vulnerable rural households and strengthen the rural safety net mechanism.

Expected Results:

This project’s anticipated intermediate outcomes include: i) Expanded and improved delivery of an equitable productive safety net program to deliver cash-for-work and direct access to food for poor rural women, men and vulnerable children to improve health outcomes; ii) Improved and equitable shock responsiveness of the rural safety net program to improve health outcomes; iii) Improved systems, capacity development and program management support for kebele and woreda (ward and district-level government) implementers; and iv) Increased women’s voice, agency and economic empowerment, employment and independence. This project will be delivered in 408 rural woredas and target 8 million chronically food insecure people (51% women and girls) from 2.5 million climate-vulnerable rural households.
