This project builds on the experiences and results achieved through the first phase of the BERANI project (P-003038-001). It focuses on improving women and girls’ access to quality sexual and reproductive health services and stopping gender-based violence (GBV). It extends the reach to more vulnerable populations in Eastern Indonesia and neglected and underserved areas. Project activities include: (1) providing technical assistance to Midwifery Education Centers of Excellence to deliver quality SRHR education services; (2) developing training materials on comprehensive sexuality education for junior high school and health workers; (3) conducting community mobilization and dialogue to disseminate information on preventing child marriage and positive social norms; (4) delivering training on gender equality and life skills for adolescent girls and boys; and (5) providing technical assistance to the national government to strengthen the quality of GBV services.
Direct project beneficiaries include over 14,000 individuals (50% women and girls). Indirect beneficiaries include policymakers, health and justice service providers, police, counsellors, and teachers to support rights-based family planning, quality midwifery training and response to GBV, comprehensive sex education, and efforts to eliminate child marriage and female genital mutilation.
