Description:
Phase II of the "Together for Nutrition" project aims to respond to the urgent need to provide timely, improved, and globally indicative data to measure the unfolding effects of climate change on nutrition and nutrition on climate change. This project proposes to fill global knowledge gaps through a robust synthesis and consolidation of current evidence on the impact of climate change on nutrition. This is done through various causal pathways, providing a much-needed understanding of the impact on anemia, stunting, wasting, and other micronutrient deficiencies. This research and advocacy project seeks to prioritize policy-relevant evidence generation on mitigation and adaptation, translating this evidence into actionable recommendations and amplifying key messaging that ensures priority on nutrition policy and programs in shock mitigation efforts. It also aims to convene global experts to gather and synthesize accurate data to inform national and global nutrition policy and program priorities and ensure a gender equity lens. All project activities focus on the gendered impact on nutrition to generate gender-responsive solutions. Project activities include: (1) generating policy-relevant evidence on mitigation and adaptation; (2) translating the evidence into actionable recommendations; and (3) strengthening key messaging that ensures priority on nutrition policy and programs in shock mitigation efforts.
Organization:
Global Affairs Canada
Expected Results:
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved nutrition and food security for the most vulnerable populations affected by climate change, especially women and girls, in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs); (2) increased number of countries adopting policies and climate actions that mitigate the impact of climate change on nutrition and vice versa; and (3) increased investments by global funders and national governments to mitigate and adapt gender-centered, bi-directional impact between climate change and nutrition, and food security in LMICs.
