Description:
This project aims to recognize, respond, redistribute, and reduce unpaid care work responsibilities on women and girls in Sri Lanka by helping improve government’s policies, systems, and practices on care work. It also seeks to increase awareness and address socio-cultural norms that enable unequal care duties for men and women. Project activities include: (1) developing 7 unpaid care work policies at sub-national levels and 3 sub-policies on unpaid care work; (2) conducting coalition-building among women’s rights organizations; and (3) raising awareness through campaigns targeting women, youth, boys, men’s groups, policymakers, the private sector, and trade unions.

Expected Results:
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved enabling environment, including care policies and infrastructure to recognize unpaid care work and reduced and redistributed care work responsibilities; and (2) increased women and girls representation in decision-making to reduce disproportionate care responsibilities, realize rights, and meet strategic needs regarding unpaid care work.
