Description:
The project aims to reduce barriers to education and meet the needs of young girls and boys in terms of nutrition, overall health and sexual and reproductive health and rights in the Lake Chad province in Chad. Project activities include: (1) providing nutritious meals and a deworming package to pre-school and elementary school children; (2) raising awareness among girls, boys and their communities about sexual and reproductive health and rights, and the prevention of gender-based violence, female genital mutilation and early marriage; (3) training women and adolescent girls on menstrual hygiene management and in the design of reusable sanitary pads to reduce absenteeism in schools; and (4) sensitizing communities on the importance of education for all children, especially girls. The number of direct beneficiaries of the project is estimated at 15,025, including 9,050 adolescents and girls in the Lake Chad province.

Expected Results:
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved access to education and retention of adolescents and girls in the Lake Chad province; and (2) increased empowerment of adolescents and girls to claim their sexual and reproductive rights in schools and at community level, in the Lake Chad province.
