Description:
This project aims to support Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Panama in their efforts to protect their unique marine biodiversity, their coastal communities, as well as local communities, specifically women, Indigenous Peoples, and Afro-descendants. This will be achieved through the provision of innovative Canadian satellite technology to support monitoring and enforcement efforts in reducing the threats posed by illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing activities, such as overfishing.

Expected Results:
The expected results of this project include: 1) increased adoption of monitoring, control, and surveillance (MCS) technologies, including improved maritime domain awareness, by maritime authorities to protect marine biodiversity from anthropogenic threats; and 2) improved collaboration amongst maritime authorities to detect, identify, and deter human threats posed to marine biodiversity.
