Description:
July 2024 – Starting on July 1st, 2024, hurricane Beryl swept through the Caribbean as a category 4 hurricane, causing significant destruction particularly in Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Jamaica. Hurricane Beryl is among the worst storms to hit these countries since records began in 1851. Over 1.1 million people are estimated to be affected in the region, including 940,000 in Jamaica.
With GAC’s support, the WFP will provide lifesaving assistance to crisis-affected people in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, and Jamaica. Project activities include: (1) distribution of immediate food assistance; and (2) provision of emergency cash assistance and logistics services.

The expected outcome of this project includes increased access to emergency food items to support vulnerable and at-risk populations.
The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved, suffering alleviated, and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
